Quad Biking in Marrakech: Palmeraie or Agafay Desert?

The short answer: there are two main quad areas near Marrakech. The Palmeraie, a palm grove 15 to 20 minutes north of the medina, offers easy tracks between palms and villages; the Agafay Desert, about 45 minutes south-west, offers bigger stony hills and Atlas views. Rides usually last one or two hours, include pick-up, helmet and a tea break, and are best in the morning or late afternoon.

Quad or buggy?
- Quad (ATV): one rider, or a passenger behind; more physical and fun on bends.
- Buggy: two seats side by side with a roll cage and seat belts; good for couples and for anyone less confident.
How a ride works
- Pick-up from your riad or a medina gate.
- Safety briefing, helmet, goggles and a scarf for dust.
- A short practice loop, then the ride behind the guide in a line.
- A tea stop in a village or a Berber tent.
- Return to the base and drive back to Marrakech.
Safety and what to wear
- Closed shoes, long trousers and sunglasses; a light jacket in winter.
- Follow the guide's line and keep distance from the quad in front.
- Children usually ride as passengers with an adult; age rules vary by operator.
- Choose operators with recent reviews, well-maintained machines and helmets for everyone.
- Check what is included: transfer, tea, insurance and photos are not always in the base price.
Best time
