Before you fly: entry, money and safety
US citizens can visit Morocco as tourists without a visa for up to 90 days; check that your passport is valid for your whole stay. The local currency is the Moroccan dirham and cards work in hotels and larger shops, but you need cash in the souks. Our guides cover Morocco visa requirements, money and the dirham, tipping and whether Morocco is safe.
Why a private package instead of a group tour?
Big group tours follow a fixed schedule with up to 16 or more people per bus. With a private package the car is only for your family or friends: you decide when to leave in the morning, where to stop for photos and how long to stay in each medina. It is the most relaxed way to discover Morocco, and often similar in price for 2 to 4 travelers. See private driver vs group tour.
Best time to travel from the USA
Spring (March to May) and fall (September to November) are ideal, with warm days in Marrakech and comfortable nights in the desert. Winter is good for sunny city visits but desert nights are cold. Thanksgiving, Christmas and spring break fill up early, so ask for your quote a few months ahead. More in planning a Morocco tour from the United States.
