Morocco Travel Checklist: 20 Things to Sort Before You Fly

Published November 5, 2026 by Morocco Amazing Tours

The short answer: before flying to Morocco, check your passport validity and visa rules, buy travel insurance, plan how you will get dirhams, pack a Type C or E plug adapter, sort a SIM or eSIM, book your first night with an airport pickup, and leave the drone at home. The 20-point checklist below covers the rest.

Documents and entry

  1. Passport valid for your whole stay; six months of validity is the safe rule many airlines apply.
  2. Visa: citizens of the US, UK, EU, Canada and Australia can usually stay up to 90 days without a visa. Check your nationality on official sources such as the US State Department page and our visa guide.
  3. Travel insurance covering health, cancellations and activities like quad biking or ballooning.
  4. Copies of passport and insurance, on paper and on your phone.
  5. Driving licence and an International Driving Permit if you plan to rent a car; see driving in Morocco.

Money

  1. The dirham is a closed currency: get it from ATMs or exchange offices on arrival. See our money guide.
  2. Tell your bank you are travelling and carry two cards.
  3. Keep small notes and coins for tips, taxis and souks; our tipping guide has the usual amounts.
  4. Plan a rough budget: how much a trip to Morocco costs.

Check passport validity first: it is the one thing that cannot be fixed at the airport.

Tech and connectivity

  1. Plugs: Type C and E (European two-pin), 220 V.
  2. SIM or eSIM for maps and WhatsApp; see SIM card or eSIM.
  3. Offline maps of Marrakech and Fes, and a translation app.
  4. Time zone: Morocco uses GMT+1 for most of the year and usually switches to GMT during Ramadan.
  5. No drones: they are not allowed without prior authorisation and are often confiscated at customs.

Health

  1. Ask your doctor about routine vaccines; no special vaccination is generally required for most travellers.
  2. Pack sunscreen, a hat and any personal medication with its prescription.
  3. Drink bottled or filtered water; read is tap water safe in Morocco.

Bookings

  1. First night in a riad with airport pickup; see airport to medina.
  2. Timed tickets for the Majorelle Garden and any hot air balloon or cooking class.
  3. Your desert tour and trains on busy dates; our private tours include transfers, riads and camps in one plan.
